Ainslie Tricolours to Debut Pride Guernsey in all Eight Senior Grades
This weekend we will see the Ainslie Tricolours sport their first Pride inspired guernsey, as all eight of their senior grades will participate in the Pride round celebrations.
All Ainslie grades starting from the Men’s and Women’s Rising Stars to the three Community Grades, all the way up to the senior Men and senior Women in their respective AFL Canberra First Grade competitions will showcase the Pride inspired guernsey over the weekend.
The Eastlake Demons playing host to the Tricolours will also be debuting their very own Pride inspired guernseys in both their senior Men’s and Women’s teams this Saturday at Manuka Oval to celebrate the inaugural Pride game.
The Tricolours guernsey, put together by the Ainslie Football Club Pride working group, consisting of four female and four male players, acknowledges all LGBTQI+ people in the footy community.
Ainslie Tricolours General Manager Matthew Diglio spoke on the guernsey created by the clubs Pride working group.
“The Pride working group design is based on the traditional symbol of LGBT hope, the rainbow. It also includes the black and brown stripes for people of colour and white, pink, and blue stripes for intersex, trans, non-binary and other gender diverse people.
“While it’s great that we’ll be wearing the stunning guernseys this weekend during a designated Pride occasion. We’ll be looking to wear them on more occasions this season as it’s not a tokenistic tick off and done event for us and our community.”
Diglio also spoke about the importance of the Pride round fixture and what it means for the Ainslie Football Club.
“(Pride round) can inspire our club and others to be proud about the steps that we take to look beyond stereotypes and recognize the benefits of sporting inclusion.
“Ainslie Footy Club is a safe place to participate in footy and that’s what we want to make sure that we promote.
“We are pretty happy and proud to be involved.”
