James Bennett appointed Belconnen Magpies coach for 2021
James Bennett has been appointed as senior coach of the Belconnen Magpies for the 2021 season.
The experienced player-coach has been part of the Magpies’ programs since junior football, and will return to the senior coaching position after stepping down in 2019.
Bennett had a three-year stint with North Adelaide in the SANFL competition before returning to Belconnen where he has since become a legend of the club, becoming a life member in 2019.
The two-time Mulrooney Medalist will take over from Brock Weston, who initially replaced Bennett at the end of the 2019 season.
“Belconnen would like to say a big thank you to Brock Weston for all of his hard work in guiding the side through last year, particularly given the difficulties and unique circumstances presented by a 9-month pre-season,” Belconnen said in a statement.
“Brock has made a significant contribution to BMFC both on and off the field over the last 20 years and we look forward to him remaining to be a regular around The Nest.
“While stepping back from head coaching in 2020, James continued to take a keen interest in developing and teaching our younger players and we look forward to him returning to the head coaching role for the 2021 season.”
