AFL Canberra Community Grand Finals – Preview

UNSW Canberra 2rd Grade Women’s

Molonglo Juggernauts v Queanbeyan Tigers, Saturday October 3, 9:30am

The Molonglo Juggernauts will verse the Queanbeyan Tigers in the UNSW Canberra 2nd Grade Womens Grand Final at Allinsure Park this Saturday at 9:30am.

During round two Molonglo defeated the Tigers, 3.8.26 to 1.0.6 keeping the Tigers to only one goal. H. Bartholomew had an impact during this game and will be a player to watch out for this weekend. This will be the second time these two teams met with everything on the line.

In the first week of semi-finals, Molonglo was able to beat ANU Griffins to advance straight to the grand final and have the week off. J. Leamey lead by example that game and will be ready to display her talent once again in the grand final.

During the preliminary final the Tigers won by 2 points, 1.4.10 to 1.2.8 against ANU Griffins. Z. Betts was the only person to kick a goal from the Tigers and will need to continue her form moving forward into the grand final.

 

4TH Grade Men’s

 ANU Griffins v Yass Roos, Saturday October 3, 12:15pm

 ANU Griffins will verse Yass Roos in the grand final at Allinsure Park this Saturday at 12:15pm.

Round 7 was the first time these clubs met, where ANU Griffins displayed their skill winning 10.5.65 to 6.5.41. Yass got out to an early lead in the first quarter, however, during the second quarter, ANU Griffins was able to kick four straight goals to regain the lead. This weekend will be the second time these teams play each other with the title on the line.

ANU Griffins won the first semi-final and their place in the grand final with a week off while they awaited their opponent. Yass had to beat Southern Cats to get themselves a place in the grand final and came out strong in the first quarter kicking 4 straight goals. A. Curtois played a huge role in the game kicking five goals to ensure his team wouldn’t be knocked out of the competition. Vaughan Winnel is another player to watch out for from Yass, he is currently fourth in the most goals scored this season with 13. Right behind him with 12 is Steven O’Brien also from Yass, both players will need to stand up and play their role if they want to win.

 

3rd Grade Men’s

 ANU Griffins v Woden Blues, Saturday October 3, 3:00pm

 Woden Blues have defeated Cootamundra Blues in the preliminary final to progress to the 2020 AFL Canberra 3rd Grade Grand Final. The Woden Blues will verse ANU Griffins in the grand final to stake their claim for the title. This game will be held at Allinsure Park this Saturday at 3:00pm.

The first time these two teams meet was in round 9 when ANU Griffins won 8.13.61 to 3.4.22. ANU Griffins got out to a strong lead at half time, leading 4.11.35 to 1.1.7. The score could have been a lot higher for ANU Griffins if they were to execute their shots on goal. The last time these two teams met was in the first week of semi-finals, where the score was a lot closer. ANU Griffins were able to hold on to the lead to lock in the win, 6.12.48 to 3.4.22. This win advanced ANU Griffins straight into the grand final.

Key players in that game for ANU Griffins were L. Dooley who kicked two goals and Jack Hadley, who is currently fifth in the leading goal scorers with 14 goals.

Ben Ayre, currently fourth in the leading goal scorer competition with 14 goals, will need to stand up from Woden Blues. During last week’s win against Cootamundra Blues J. McGovern played a huge part, kicking three goals and will be a player to watch out for this weekend.
