UNSW Canberra 1st Grade Womens, Preliminary Final

Belconnen Magpies Vs. Eastlake Demons, Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, 4:50pm

In the Preliminary Final for UNSW Canberra 1st Grade Women’s Belconnen Magpies will play Eastlake Demons at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval this Saturday at 4:45pm.

The only time these teams have met was the week before finals in round 10. The Magpies started fast kicking three goals straight and went on to win the game, 10.6.66 to 1.2.8. The Magpies were able to keep Eastlake to only one goal, with H. Wallett kicking three goals for the Magpies and will be someone to look out for this weekend.

The Magpies are coming off a tough loss last week to Queanbeyan Tigers losing, 8.12.60 to 1.1.7. The Tigers got out to a quick start having 6 scoring shots in the first quarter to lead 3.3.21 to 0.1.1 at the first break. The Magpies can’t afford to start slow this week as there are no second chances with the loser knocked out of the competition.

Eastlake are coming into this game with momentum and confidence after defeating Ainslie Tricolours last week 10.15.75 to 2.2.14. Ainslie was one of the favourites to win the competition, boosting Eastlake’s confidence moving forward.

Demant is a player to watch out for being the competition’s leading goal scorer with 44 goals, 11 goals ahead of second place. If the Magpies want to win this game it will be important to shut down K. Demant and play their matchups correctly. If K. Demant is able to get her hands on the ball and take control for Eastlake they won’t be able to stop her.

A key forward for the Magpies is H. Wallett who is in third place for most goals scored this season with 32 goals. H. Wallett will need to get her hands on the ball as much as possible and ensure she doesn’t miss opportunities on goal

1st Grade Mens, Preliminary Final

Queanbeyan Tigers Vs. Belconnen Magpies, Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, 1:50pm

On Saturday 3rd of October at 1:50pm Queanbeyan Tigers will play Belconnen Magpies in the Preliminary Final at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval.

The Tigers are coming off a lost against Eastlake Demons going down 5.8.38 to 9.10.64. The Tigers allowed Eastlake to control the game and dominate possession, which they can’t afford to do this weekend.

The Magpies are coming into this game after smashing Ainslie Tricolours 21.11.137 to 9.6.60. The Magpies had 32 scoring shots to show their dominance and power in this competition.

The first time these teams met was in round 4 when it came down to three points, the Magpies winning 8.9.57 to 7.12.54. The Tigers had more scoring shots but weren’t able to execute their chances at goal, costing them the game. During round 9 everything changed where the Tigers came out ready to play, winning 15.19.109 to 6.3.39. The Tigers had a total of 34 scoring shots to win by 70 points. During this game the Tigers kicked seven goals in the first quarter to take control. The Magpies need to start fast from the first siren to ensure the Tigers don’t get out to a lead like that again.

Pollock from the Tigers sits in third place for leading goal scorer with 21 goals and will be a player to watch out for this weekend. Right behind him is A. Bennett with 20 goals from the Magpies, both fighting to score more goals. It
