AFL Canberra clubs unite to support bushfire appeal
AFL Canberra wish to express our support for those impacted by the current bushfire crisis and our gratitude to the firefighters, emergency services and volunteers who are working so tirelessly to support those communities at risk..
The AFL are currently working on an industry-wide approach with clubs, state bodies (e.g AFL NSW/ACT) and partners to develop a coordinated response to support fundraising for the communities impacted. This will be announced in the following days.
The outpour of support from AFL Canberra’s local clubs has been heartwarming.
Last week the Queanbeyan Tigers led a collection drive to collect donations inclusive of water, non-perishable food, toiletries and more to assist the South Coast communities that have been devastated by the bushfire activity.
The Weston Creek Wildcats are also collection donations and volunteering their time to support Canberra’s #SLABSFORHEROES campaign.
Our thoughts and support are particularly with the the Batemans Bay Seahawks Australian Football and Netball Club who are banding together to fight towards restoring what has been lost over the past month.
The Gungahlin Jets are leading the charge to assist with this, drawing on their strong history and connection with the Seahawks.
After consulting with the Seahawks, the Jets have started a fundraising account to assist the club, their players and members with any current emergencies and necessities.
It was determined that financial donations will be of most benefit as the club will be able to direct the funds to the immediate areas of need. This will also support their community through investing back in to local businesses on the South Coast.
Please find the donation details below:
