Dwyer named as Finalist for Emerging Leader of the Year
Each year the Essendon Women’s Network run a series of awards for Women in Football endorsed by the AFL. This year The Football Woman of the Year Awards are in their 20th year. The Awards play a vital role in recognising the important contribution of women throughout all levels of the Australian Rules Football community.
AFL Canberra is proud to announce that our very own, Development Officer, Amy Dwyer has been names as 1 of 3 finalists for the Emerging Leader Award.
This award recognises young women who play an active role within the Australian Rules Football community, demonstrated that she is a visible leadership star of the future through her talents and positive contribution and is held in high esteem by her peers.
Amy started with us in January of 2018 and ever since her first day she has had a positive impact on not only her role as a Development Officer, but her colleagues and the staff environment. During her 9 months in the role, her region has seen a 10% growth across 7 clubs in Auskick and Junior Football participants.
Amy’s ability to listen to others and then take on responsibility and leaderships roles at various times has been exceptional. She has filled in for her direct manager on several occasions and continues to take on more responsibilities as the year progresses.
Amy has been able to balance her own playing aspirations and work within the same industry with a great deal of maturity, by displaying excellent time management and communication skills. Amy is always looking for more opportunities to learn but also to contribute to her team, by taking on coaching, events, media and admin roles throughout this year.
The winner of this award will be announced at the 2018 Grand Final Comedy Debate on Thursday September 27 in Melbourne.
Other finalists include: Courtney Ugle – Community Engagement Support, Djirra and VFLW Player, Essendon FC and Eliza Reilly – Program Assistant, AFL Gold Coast. You can read more on this here.
Finalist’s nominations will now go to an external judging panel consisting of AFL Commissioner, Major-General Simone Wilkie, Media Commentator, Sarah Jones and Head of AFL Women’s, Nicole Livingstone.
Congratulations to Amy on a wonderful achievement, we look forward to keeping such a fine young leader within our business for many years to come. We wish her the best of luck for Thursday’s Event.
