Tuggeranong Valley Auskick Rookies Graduate

Last weekend saw the graduation of the Tuggeranong Valley (TVAFC) Auskick rookies, a celebration that marked the end of the first year of footy for many graduates in what was “an awesome day for both rookies and parents”.

The events begun with the usual team-based drills, a culmination of kicking and handballing, then moving onto the classic rookies vs parents match in which the rookies came out victorious, finally ending with the rookies receiving the graduation awards.

TVAFC Auskick Coach Tristan Turner spoke about the pros of Auskick and the development participating can provide.

“Rookies kids usually start off holding parents’ hands and feeling unsure what is happening, but by the end of it their confidence grows, and they are kicking, handballing and most of all having a great time.

“It is where kids start to identify with the game and training to play AFL, backed by a range of fun activities during this period of development.

“AFL development is also more than just learning how to play footy. There are so many more dimensions to junior development as well through meeting new people, developing confidence, teamwork, and communication skills to name a few.”

Turner went on to share his optimism and hopes to see the TVAFC Auskickers move onto the junior programs and eventually senior footy.

“It starts here before moving into Juniors, and I would like to see them all playing AFL for years to come. Maybe even winning a Grand Final.”
