Both Undefeated, a Battle for Top Spot Beckons as Ainslie and Queanbeyan Meet in a Game to Honour the Muir Name

This Saturday at Aulich Park, a clash of the titan’s brews. The last two remaining undefeated sides of the 2022 AFL Canberra First Grade Men competition will go head-to-head, as the Ainslie Tricolours and Queanbeyan Tigers battle it out for top spot on the ladder.

Currently sitting 1st on the ladder, the Ainslie Tricolours will take confidence from their last outing against the Gungahlin Jets, where they came out 194-point victors.

Sitting closely behind in 2nd only by percentage, the Queanbeyan Tigers will be hoping to repeat the last meeting between the two sides back in round twelve of the 2021 season, where the Tigers came out on top by four points.

To add to the occasion, the Muir Medal will also be played for and presented on the ground post-game to whomever is recognised as the best on ground.

Introduced in 2006 and only played for once every year, the Muir Medal recognises the contribution and service of Alan Muir to the Queanbeyan Tigers and his son Ian Muir’s contribution to the Ainslie Tricolours.

Ainslie senior player, Harry Muir spoke about the honour to play in a game that recognises the work of his Father Ian and Grandfather Alan.

“Growing up and watching first grade play, seeing the people who won were so honoured to win is just surreal.

“Now playing in a game for a medal that your grandad and your dad are honoured in, who put so much towards both clubs is insane… to be able to play in these games is so heart-warming… it’s one of the coolest things ever.”

To watch the game head down to Aulich Park in Queanbeyan this Saturday, the 7th of May with the First Grade Men commencing at 1:30pm.
