UNSW Canberra Women’s 1st Grade

Queanbeyan Tigers Vs. Belconnen Magpies, Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, 6:30pm

It’s here, the time we have all been waiting for, the AFL Canberra UNSW Canberra Senior 1st Grade Women’s Grand Final.

This Saturday the 10th of October at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval the undefeated Queanbeyan Tigers will play the Belconnen Magpies at 6:30pm.

The Magpies are coming into this game after beating Eastlake by thirty points with their star player H. Wallett kicking three goals, whilst the Tigers have had a week off to recover and prepare for the battle ahead.

These two teams met in round one of the semi-finals when the Tigers showed why they were undefeated winning 8.12.60 to 1.1.7. The Tigers were able to start strong having six scoring shots in the first quarter, and another five in the second quarter to lead 6.5.41 to 0.1.1 lead at half time. This time around the Magpies need to start fast from the first siren and ensure the Tigers don’t get out to a strong lead early on.

After last week H. Wallett moved up to second place on the leading goal scorer list with 35 goals, but right behind her is A. Hamilton with 33 goals from the Tigers, making this a battle for both the championship and goal scoring title.

Wallett, E. Zouch and T. Reid are just a few players from Magpies who will need to stand up and take control of this game. These players will need to perform their roles and lead by example, showing their leadership and talent to inspire their team to win

1st Grade Men’s

Eastlake Demons Vs. Queanbeyan Tigers, Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, 3:00pm

They meet again for one last time in season 2020, Eastlake Demons will play the Queanbeyan Tigers at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval this Saturday the 10th of October at 3:00pm in the 1st Grade Men’s Grand Final.

These two teams met in round one of the semi-finals where Eastlake held on to win 9.10.64 to 5.8.38. Eastlake were behind at the first break but came out in the second quarter with energy and determination to take the lead by three points at half time, 4.6.30 to 4.3.27. Eastlake then continued the momentum in the third and fourth quarter to run away with the win. The Tigers will need to ensure Eastlake don’t find their rhythm and take control by controlling the game early and not allowing Eastlake any easy possession.

Angus Baker, the 2020 Mulrooney Medalist will be key to Eastlakes premiership chances.  For Queanbeyan, Rhys Pollock will play a vital role up forward for the Tigers who need to take their chances early on. Both players have a lot to play for with only one goal between them for the 2020 leading goalkicker. This will be a hotly contested match and one that will be down to which side takes advantage of their momentum swings.
