2019 Community and Regional Award Winners

The Inaugural Community and Regional Presentation Evening was held at the Canberra Southern Cross Club on Monday the 19th of August designed to recognise the contributions and achievements of both competitions in Season 2019.

Will Wright was named the Best and the Fairest in AFL Canberra’s Fourth Grade Community competition, cleaning up in his first ever season of Aussie Rules. Will played all 14 games for the Seahawks this season, finishing with 5 goals to his name. He was named in his team’s best players 9 times this year, including the final six games of the season to finish the year strongly.

Kyra Jackson, took the title for the UNSW Canberra Regional Women’s after a stellar year for the Riverina Lions. As the leading goal kicker she managed a whopping 40 goals across her 14 matches which include two bags of seven and one bag of six goals. She was named in the best 6 times throughout the 2019 season.

Molonglo’s Maddison Dwyer claimed the UNSW Canberra’s Community Women’s medal kicked 17 goals through her 2019 season which consisted of all 15 games for the Juggernauts, including a bag of 7 against Ainslie in round nine. She was named in the best players nine times for the year, with five of them being the best for her team.

Phillip Bird from the Cootmundra Blues had a tremendous year, resulting in the Regional Men’s B&F. He kicked 8 goals and finished inside his team’s best players 11 times. Of those 11 times, six of them were as the best player on the ground.

ADFA’s Joel Platell kept the Rams happy kicking 36 goals over twelve matches in Season 2019. He was named the Leading Goal Kicker and took home Community’s Third Grade Best and Fairest.

The Club Championship for the Community/Regional Competitions for 2019 were based on the total wins of a given club, considerate all teams they have entered in the competitions.

The ANU Australian Football Club claimed the title after a stellar year across their two men’s sides and particularly their Women’s, they beat out the ADFA Rams by a just two points when the final standings came through.

Andy Ingold from the Murrumbateman Eagles was named the AFL Canberra Senior Volunteer of the Year.

As the President of the  Eagles, he has been integral in entering Murrumbateman’s first team into the AFL Canberra Regional Competition – registering a number of memorable wins in the inaugural season.

Not only has he helped established their first Senior Team, but also a Junior Team in the Lake George Cup, and the running of weekly Auskick Sessions to support the growth of Football in the Murrumbateman Region.

Andy’s year will be highlighted in weeks to come along with recognition of the 2019 Volunteer of the Year Nominees.
