Canberra Umpires take the stage this Saturday for AFLW

Round 6 of the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Competition will see some very familiar faces step out on UNSW Canberra Oval. Three out of four ACT based AFLW listed Umpires have been appointed in their respective disciplines to represent Canberra at as the GIANTS take on the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.

Nic Mcginness (Field) who umpired in the 2017 NEAFL Grand Final will join Kim Schultz (Goal) and Ciara Briody (EM Goal) for the Saturday night block buster at UNSW Canberra Oval.

Ben Fely, will go interstate as a boundary umpire to run on the Carlton Blues v Melbourne Demons clash on Sunday afternoon.

Umpire Development Coordinator, Jake Bateman, says this is a very exciting time for umpiring in the ACT.

“The AFL Canberra and ACT based NEAFL Umpires have been working very hard over the pre-season. To have three of our four AFLW listed umpires appointed in Saturday night’s game at UNSW Canberra Oval is a proud moment for the region.

Canberra has continued to produce some amazing talent, with Michael Barlow’s (Boundary) recent promotion to the 2018 AFL Umpiring List.

“These appointments just further reinforce the incredible umpiring talent we have and continue to develop in the ACT region. Michael Barlow is an excellent example and we look forward to watching his career unfold.”
