FINALS FEVER: Community and Regional Prelim Preview

This weekend will see AFL Canberra’s Community and Regional teams put everything on the line for their last chance to perform at the big dance. Jaike Altieri reports…

 Community Third Grade Men’s

ADFA Rams v Batemans Bay Seahawks – Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, Saturday 2:15PM

Minor Premiers ADFA were knocked off by ANU last week and now find themselves in a do-or-die match up against an in-form Batemans Bay outfit. The Seahawks beat Woden by 27 points last week and will be playing with confidence on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks haven’t beaten ADFA this year but with a spot in the 2019 Grand Final on offer, anything can happen.

 UNSW Canberra Community Women’s

Molonglo Juggernauts v Batemans Bay Seahawks – Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, Saturday 10AM

Batemans Bay are coming off a gutsy win against ADFA last weekend and they face another tough assignment in week two, coming up against a Molonglo side looking to bounce back. The Juggernauts were held scoreless last week against ANU and redemption will be on the cards. These two have swapped results this year so a tight, intense contest is expected with the winner heading to the Grand Final where ANU are waiting.

 Community Fourth Grade Men’s

Woden Blues v ANU Griffins – Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, Saturday 12PM

Woden have won this match-up both times this season and look primed for a rematch against ADFA in the Grand Final. But they have to get through a tough ANU side who are coming off a solid 33-point victory last weekend. It’s do-or-die for these two, with the winner booking its ticket to the Grand Final and a date with ADFA. A great game of football to look forward to with everything to play for.

UNSW Canberra Regional Women’s

Riverina Lions v Eastlake Demons – Football Park, Saturday 12PM

The Minor premiers in the Riverina take on the fourth place finished Eastlake with a spot in the Grand Final up for grabs. The Lions were toppled by Queanbeyan last week and will be looking to bounce back against a confident Eastlake who had a great win against Belconnen last week.

 Regional Men’s

Southern Cats v Belconnen Magpies – Football Park, Saturday 2:15PM

Belconnen had a form building win against Goulburn last time out and are hoping it continues this week against the Southern Cats. The Cats were beaten by a very strong Cootamundra side, but have gotten the better of the Magpies two out of three times this season, with the Magpies winning the most recent encounter. Anything could happen in this game, what a way to finish the weekend!
