UNSW Canberra supporting local Women’s footy

AFL Canberra today announced that UNSW Canberra will be the naming rights partner of our Women’s competition for the next two seasons.

The partnership was revealed at UNSW Canberra Oval this morning, as part of the official launch of the AFL Canberra Women’s season for 2017.

UNSW Canberra is one of four Universities that operate significant campuses in Canberra and has been proudly educating the future leaders of the Australian Defence Force in Canberra for half a century.

The announcement of this partnership coincides with two big milestones for both organisations, with Women’s AFL in Canberra celebrating 20 years in 2017 while UNSW Canberra notches up its 50th year of operation this year.

UNSW Canberra Deputy Rector, Professor John Arnold, spoke today about why it was the perfect time for them to partner with AFL Canberra.

“UNSW Canberra is committed to building relationships with our local community and supporting sports such as Women’s AFL in Canberra help us to do this,” Arnold said

“We already have strong links with the AFL, and our support of Women’s AFL is an important and logical addition to these links,”

“Education is our core business, and supporting young women to undertake higher education studies is a priority. By promoting UNSW Canberra’s links with Women’s AFL, we’re hoping to inspire young women to take on further education and training right here, in Canberra, with us.

The partnership will include naming rights to the Women’s Pre-Season Tournament, which will be held this Saturday April 8th, and also our Women’s Representative Program.
